Dutch | Antillean
My parents are from the Netherlands and Curacao. I am not in contact with my real Father, it's my Mom that teaches Antillean culture in our home. She makes the food, makes me listen to the music, teaches me songs in Papiamentu and brings me to Antillean restaurants and party’s.
When people ask where I’m from it makes me feel different, as if I come from another country when I was just born in the Netherlands. Because I have multiple origins, I don't really belong anywhere. I am not full-blooded Dutch but also not full-blooded Antillean. Antillean children see me more as Dutch, while Dutch children see me more as Antillean. I think everyone should be proud of their own heritage. If I wasn’t Dutch and only Antillean I would be just as proud. Everyone should embrace their heritage and see the beauty in it.
Both of my origins are reflected in everyday life, for example in what we eat and the music we listen to. I love both equally. For the Antillean culture, I love their hospitality. They make a party and ambiance out of everything. Good music and good food are always included. And for the Dutch part I like their sobriety. They are really down to earth just like myself.
I would like to make a change in the world and will use my creativity to do so. I strive for love, connection and unity and I really think that this can inspire people and raise their consciousness. The world won't be perfect because of me but hopefully it will see improvement. When I’m older I would like to write/sing songs about life with other famous artists.
